We are frequently asked how people get to work at BNSC headquarters.
The answer is that most of our 45 staff joined BNSC through the Civil Service, or are on secondment from industry or one of our partners. We rarely recruit individuals directly.
For further information on joining the Civil Service please go to: http://careers.civil-service.gov.uk/
For further information on joining the Research Councils, please go the Joint Recruitment Unit for the Research Councils website: http://jru.rcuk.ac.uk/default.htm or visit their individual websites.
Outside of BNSC the UK has a busy space sector, of more than 15,000 people, that is often on the lookout for new talent and ideas. The sector covers a multitude of disciplines from devising science missions and developing instruments to processing Earth observation information and creating software for space systems. Therefore they employ people highly skilled in the fields of science, information technology, engineering and mathematics. The majority of entrants are educated to degree standard, preferably in a relevant science subject, for example environmental science or physics.
The European Space Agency (ESA) may also be worth looking into. For more information about vacancies in both the technical and non-technical areas of the Agency and details of how to apply please go to http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Careers_at_ESA/.
